Some updates on the built of the VW60K10/Typ64 car.
Have been working on the wheel covers/spats with good fit and also making the fastners, took a lot of time but it was worth it.
We have also worked on the engine lid with frame, skin and hinges.
Hinge geometry was a challenge, very sensitive to bind if you don´t get the angles correct.
The hinges was TIG welded and it all seems to work fine now.
Also very tight with space around the left side air cleaner, the Mathé car has cut the cleaners in order to get them to fit, we will try to avoid this little design flaw.
Next up is to fit the engine lid skin to the frame and get a nice gap of 3.5 mm all around, this will take some time, but front lid and doors are done so we know the drill.
After that the plan is to design and built the seats, steel tube frame with aluminum cover.
VW60K10/Porsche Typ64/Berlin - Rome wagen - 38/43 Mathé recreation Some of you have asked for more details on this Typ 64 replica built. Here are some more info and pictures from the now 8 years long built since we decided to go ahead. It is built in aluminum as the original, three of these cars was built by Reutter 1939-40 and only one of them still exists today. The three cars were intended for a race between Berlin and Rome. The race was cancelled due to WWII. Pictures shows some stages of the built, models made for testing and the wood buck.
